We are enjoying the study of the book of Revelation, and we have worked our way through to Revelation 22 and we are looking at the eternal state and what the Lord has provided us for eternity. In the first three verses we have seen some of the things we will enjoy in the new Jerusalem. We have the tree of life, the river of life, and the throne of God and we see that the curse has been removed. This time, we are going to look at something a little different in Revelation 22:4-5 because we are going to talk about not what is there, but some of the relationships that are involved with our eternal state.
In Revelation 22:4 we begin with a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, “they will see His face, and His name will be on their foreheads.” We are talking about seeing the Lamb. Seeing Christ. I don’t think we are talking about seeing the Father here. Nowhere in Scripture does anyone see God in all His glory. It tells us that no person could see God and live. It says, He lives in indescribable light and so I do not think we will ever see the Father in His full essence. The Lamb will represent the Trinity. The Lamb, Jesus Christ, was incarnate and we believe He will continue to have a physical body throughout all of eternity, but as Christians, right now, we do not see Him face-to-face. Instead, right now, we see Him through faith and Scripture. We get those descriptions of Him but, we do not see Him. None of us have ever seen Him despite some stories of people that claim they have. I do not believe anyone alive has ever seen the face of Jesus Christ. So, when it says here that we will see His face, it is a picture of an intimacy we can have with Him that we have not enjoyed on earth. When we see someone face-to-face it is like a friendship. It is like a reality that we know somebody. We have this different connection than in any other format. When we make a telephone call, we hear their voice and that is sufficient for some things, but to see somebody face-to-face and eye-to-eye is a different piece of work. So, we see that we are going to have an intimate, personal relationship with God through the Lamb, through Jesus Christ, at that point. It says also that His name will be on our foreheads. This picture has been found throughout the book of Revelation, so now we have a mark of ownership from the Lamb on us. His name is on our foreheads . . .
