We have been working through the subject of the riches we have in Christ over the last few weeks. We are going to continue looking at more riches that are ours this week. There is so much in the Word of God that tell of our blessings in Him. It is good to be reminded of that once in a while. A lot of times people tend to gravitate toward the difficult things in life and maybe get despondent over the difficult things we are facing and such and we tend to forget the blessings and riches and treasures that are ours in Christ. The New Testament doesn’t forget that, and it is constantly reminding us of who we are in Jesus Christ. It is so helpful in our own lives.
The first is in 1 Peter 2:9. This is one of my favorite verses in Scripture. It says, “But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for God’s own possession, so that you may proclaim the excellencies of Him who has called you out of darkness into His marvelous light.” Then in 1 Peter 2:10 it continues, “for you once were not a people, but now you are the people of God; you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.” This is a beautiful passage of Scripture. Last week, in our Wednesday night service, we had a missionary from Mongolia, whom we have supported for twenty-nine years, speaking about the fact that the Lord is at work calling out people for Himself. That is primarily what He is doing. He is calling out a people from every tribe, tongue, and nation as a people for Himself, and this passage of Scripture speaks of that very clearly. What a teaching here! We are a chosen family, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for God’s own possession. We belong to God. We are the possession of Almighty God. What a thought that is! . . .
