Today we look at another of our great riches in Christ. First, we are going to start with Christ Himself. Here is the treasure we are going to look at today: the fact that we are seated at the right hand of God. To get there, we must do a little bit of putting some pieces together.
Starting with Ephesians 1:20, this is a teaching in the New Testament that perhaps some people haven’t gathered or paid attention to, but it says, “which He brought about in Christ, when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places.” Historically, what we are looking at here, is that Jesus Christ came to earth and lived as a man on this planet. He went to the cross and died for our sins. He went to the grave and was resurrected from the dead. That is all part of the cross story.
Following His resurrection, forty days later, He ascended into heaven. We see that in Acts 1. As He was ascended into heaven, what happened from there? The Scripturesreminded us in the Old Testament and now tells us in the New Testament that He went to the right hand of the Father. He is seated there at the right hand. The right hand of a monarch in the ancient times was a place of honor. A place of authority and power. So, by saying that Jesus Christ is at the right hand of the Father, we are learning that He is at the place of authority and power and honor, and no one can sit at the right hand of God unless they are God. That is one of the things that got Jesus in trouble with the Sanhedrin when He said that very thing, that He would be at the right hand of the Father. They knew at that point that He was claiming deity and they did not like it. Now we find that after He is resurrected and ascended that He is at the right hand of the Father . . .
