Welcome to today’s Practice Minute. Today were talking about the process of hiring employees and professionals for your clinic. This is one of the most important things you can do as an owner or manager of a practice. Today I want to talk about the vetting process. This is how we do recruitment at our company. I’ve hired over 200 staff through my placement agency and practices. Compile an accurate description in an advertisement to put on social media to attract the right people. Describe what you are looking for in a candidate and the responsibilities the person should have. When candidates apply meet with them just to get a general sense of what they’re like and whether they would be a good fit. Sometimes for professionals this meeting needs to be done on the phone or using videoconferencing. Then follow up with questions in a timely manner to have another meeting. Get into the particulars of the job and the responsibilities; ask questions whether the candidate can handle those responsibilities and if they’ve had any experience with that type of job duty. Note their general attitude and willingness to do the tasks and / or to learn new ones. Encourage the candidate to interact with you and have a dialogue with them. Do reference checks asking about particular details on the candidates resume or CV. Meet with the candidate a third time to discuss anything you found during reference checks or have thought about since the previous two calls. Then work out the particulars like their schedule, responsibilities, and rate of pay or salary. Finally set up a probationary period of at least 90 days to interact with the employee and see if they are a good fit for your team. Taking your time, getting to know the person, and be thorough which is the best way to hire a new team member that could be with you for a very long time and be very productive for your clinic.
