Jeffrey Augustine Songco is a multidisciplinary artist whose work explores the complexity of self-portraiture. His autobiographical installations incorporate self-portrait photographs, videos, and sculptures. In 2008, Songco established the Society of 23 as a non-linear narrative documenting a secret brotherhood of 23 mysterious men — all portrayed by the artist himself.
“As a gay American man of Filipino ethnicity, my artwork is a place of representation — an opportunity to playfully cast myself as the protagonist of a postcolonial queer narrative.”
Jeffrey is currently showing in the group exhibition 'Guilty Party' at the Wing Luke Museum of the Asian American Pacific Experience in Seattle, on view through May 16, and the solo exhibition 'Society of 23's Trophy Game Room' at Mattress Factory in Pittsburgh as part of 'Factory Installed 2021' on view through November 14.
