The final readings of Matthew chapter 5 provide us as the hearers of the Word of Jesus His guidance in regard to Oaths, Going the Second Mile, and the importance of Loving Your Enemies.
Jesus not speaking against the administration of proper justice toward those who are evil. He is referring to loving one's enemies. We are not to react to the wrong done toward us in a spirit of hate, but in a way that shows we have values that are centered in Christ Jesus and His kingdom. Our actions toward those who are unkind, that commit sinful acts should be such that it might lead them to accept Christ as their LORD and Savior. Remember it is by Grace that you are no longer in darkness but walk in the light of Christ.
There is none that is perfect, no not one none other than Christ Himself. The word "perfect" in the 48th verse of chapter 5 does not imply sinlessly perfect, for that would be impossible in this life. We must continue to strive each and every day. It does suggest completeness, and maturity as the children of God. The Father loves His enemies and seeks to make them His children, and we should assist Him!
We must all strive to walk the path that God has laid out before us and remember we must repent all day long. Why? Because we never know when we in thought or deed may step out of the Will of God.
