Description

In this episode, the Huddle Guys launch their Women in Accounting series. Beginning in the 1990’s, the big accounting firms were laser focused on their diversity & inclusion efforts. Today, approximately 61% of accountants are women and 24% of partners in accounting firms are women.

So, while the accounting industry has made great strides in its gender composition at certain levels, it cannot take its foot off the gas. The Huddle Guys want more college students to learn the benefits of a career in accounting, and to understand that the career paths in the accounting field are varied.

The Huddle Guys welcome Lorilyn Wilson, CPA. Listen as Lorilyn shares her unconventional path to the accounting profession. She is a University of Michigan graduate, who was recruited on a softball scholarship and graduated with a degree in Political Science initially. She then found her passion for accounting. Lorilyn also discusses how she maneuvered early on to work for an accounting firm that provided the work-life balance that was important to her family.

Calling all college students!  If you are unsure of what to major in or career to pursue, consider opportunities in accounting. Catch up on episodes of this podcast as a resource. You can also follow Lorilyn across the various social platforms. As Eric and Ignatius continue to show us, the accounting profession is much more dynamic and exciting than many of us know. It’s time to Huddle Up!
