At the end of day on January 20, I was tired and didn’t have much to say. I watched the inauguration, and, aside from a relief that nothing horrible happened, felt mainly struck by how normal Joe Biden and Kamala Harris and their families seemed after four years of Trump. Granted, Joe Biden’s family is full of beautiful people–exceptionally beautiful people–and Kamala Harris herself cuts a dramatic figure indeed. But they all seemed also so normal compared to those images of Donald Trump’s frozen-faced family sitting on the podium four years ago. And I can’t help but feel sad.
