Description

Given the current public health crisis in the world around the coronavirus (COVID-19), many people are experiencing a lot of fear and distress, and maybe even panic to some extent.

It is a legitimate concern for our community and the necessary precautions should be taken such as hand washing, coughing into elbows/tissues, not touching your face, wiping down surfaces, and staying home if you exhibit symptoms or if you are in a high-risk group such as being over the age of 60 or have a compromised immune system or other health concern.  And we suggest you following the recommendations given by experts, the Center for Disease Control (CDC), and the World Health Organization (WHO).  We are all learning more about the situation as each day goes on, and I am right there with you with the waiting and wondering what is going to happen.

However going into panic mode is NOT necessarily helpful and potentially could be hurtful. We should be aware that fear, anxiety and stress can actually decrease our immmune function, which might make us more suceptible to acquiring viruses…so it’s a good time to start implementing some mindfulness tools like meditation or breathing exercises!  In today's episode, we discuss how to address fear and make the distinction between what is in your head versus what is the reality of the situation.
