In 2009 in the midst of a recession, Melissa M. Johnson decided it would be a good idea to open a new business with a bank account that had less than $100 in it. Today people call her the founder and CEO of Oh My Cupcakes! where along with a skilled team of great leaders, the company's forty-five Cupcake Ninjas create flavor experiences like no other. In October 2020, knee-deep into a global pandemic, she founded Sweet Cream Candle Co.
With a background in broadcast media and communications, Melissa is a sought-after keynote speaker with both Melissa J Creative and the Jon Gordon Companies, where she is a Power of Positive Leadership Certified speaker and trainer. Her genuine desire is to inspire and uplift, leaving people better than she found them.
Melissa is an adoptive parent of a child with significant diagnosed mental health challenges and loves the opportunity to connect with other families parenting foster or adopted children who come from hard places. She currently serves on the Volunteers of America Foundation board, the Children's Home Society of SD Programming board, and the Avera Philanthropy Council.
