Sakeenah Gbemisola Ajayi is a 15 year old West African girl who lives in South Africa. She loves writing poetry and short stories and is passionate about Biology, Biotech, arts and baking. She’s always loved writing since when she was a child as it was a form of escapism for her. “Layers of Me” is about an ongoing tragedy in Sakeenah’s life. It explores the avenues of how racism and inferiority complex affects a young mind. Sakeenah comes to a conclusion and a resolution at the end of her poem. However, it is still an ongoing battle in her life since she can’t change who she is and has therefore chosen to embrace it.
