Madeleine Witham is instantly recognised around town as the baker behind the award winning Little Cupcake Ballarat shop in Eureka Street. Having ventured to Ballarat in 2014 with her husband and family, with a view to creating a cupcake shop at the front of her house, Madeleine’s vision definitely became a reality and her self-taught, creative cupcake designs have become legendary throughout the town! Before donning the chef’s hat and releasing her creative flair, Madeleine lived a varied life, far removed from the world of icing sugar and piping bags. After finishing school Madeleine enlisted in the Australian Army to pursue her talents in music through the Army Band Corp. During her ten years of service she attended University and became a secondary school music teacher, before marrying and starting her family in Sydney with her husband, Mark. Madeleine and Mark have two daughters, Chelsea and Ella. When Ella was nine months old she was diagnosed with Cornelia de Lange Syndrome, a diagnosis that would change Madeleine’s life and career focus. Whilst spending the majority of her time as a Mum and carer for her daughters, Madeleine joined The Royal Blind Society (now Vision Australia) to work as a Music Braillest, learning literary and musical Braille to allow her to continue working with her love of music and teaching. After both girls were finished in school in Sydney, Madeleine and Mark moved with Ella to Ballarat to be closer to family and to explore their cupcake dream!
