Rhys Jeffrey is one half of the founding team of Higher Society Eatery, one of Ballarat’s newest and trendiest cafes in Sturt Street. Born in Moe, Rhys lived in Melbourne for most of his young life. Having left school early, Rhys began his working life in retail management and hospitality, before creating his own landscaping business. 11 years ago Rhys came to Ballarat for a house party where he met his partner Lachlain Ramsay, and, seeing the comparatively relaxed lifestyle Ballarat had to offer over Melbourne, moved up one month later. After discovering that the sun does not shine nearly enough in Ballarat for landscaping to be an enjoyable endeavour, Rhys began working in real estate with Remax. After a short stint in real estate he returned to hospitality and retail, before venturing back to Melbourne with Lachie. After a short period of time home sickness drew the boys back to Ballarat and Rhys joined the team at Hocking Stuart Real Estate for 3 years before he and Lachie decided to take on the challenge of running their own cafe and Higher Society Eatery was born. First opening its doors in 2019, Higher Society has become a well known and much loved staple in Ballarat, achieving the aim to create something new in a nice environment where people didn’t have to go broke to enjoy breakfast! Through the ever-changing environment created by the pandemic in 2020, Higher Society have kept their doors open, providing the people of Ballarat with beautiful coffee and fantastic food.
