"He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire. His winnowing fork is in His hand to thoroughly clear and cleanse His threshing floor and to gather the wheat and store it in His granary, but the chaff He will burn with fire that cannot be extinguished." (Luke 3:16-17) Turning to the Lord in repentance is what causes "the crooked places [to] be made straight, and the rough roads [to] be made smooth" (v. 5) which creates a threshing floor for the Holy Spirit to come with His wind and His fire to separate and burn all the chaff.
