It is important when reading the gospels that we "rightly divide the Word of Truth" (2 Timothy 2:15) by reading it in light of the Pauline Revelation, which is "Christ in you, the hope of glory." (Colossians 1:27) We see this revelation in types and shadows in the story of Elijah and Elisha. Once Elijah ascended to Heaven, there was no more need for Elisha to follow anyone around because Elijah left him the mantle--the power he needed to do the same miracles Elijah did.
