Description

A relaxed conversation with the world-renowned, Ray Blue--tenor saxophonist, composer and educator. This episode kicks off with one of my original themes, MONTSERRAT (where my maternal grandparents were from) then segues into Ray's title cut, WORK. The rhythmic similarity is striking, yet I feature synthesizers while Ray remains true blue to acoustic piano and live drums accompanying him.

One would hardly guess that I only met Ray about a month ago, where I sat in on trumpet with his group in Peekskill, New York. That day one of the first things I said to him was notwithstanding his own personal style, that he reminded me of George Coleman, who played sax with Miles Davis in the 1960s. He seemed kind of flattered, telling me, "George is my teacher. I recently had my regular lesson with him!"

Ray underscores our talk with his renditions of standards--EVERYTHING HAPPENS TO MEand finally, THAT'S ALL.

Our customary closing is of course, CLOCKTIME by B. Turnbull.
