I Believe Everyone Has A Hero by Chris G.
If you’ve ever heard the saying, “Not all heroes wear capes,” and that is a very true
statement in this instance.
In my life, I have a lot of heroes, but, if I had to choose my number one, it would have to
be my grandfather, Pops. My grandfather has been in my life from the first steps I took
to now graduating high school.
When I was young and living in York, both sides of my family were having some great
turmoil and could never get along. My grandfather never wanted me in the middle so
he’d pull me out of the house and to go play at the park or go fishing.
When we moved to Somerset it wasn’t because of my mom, or my dad, or any other
family there, it was because my grandfather wanted to get us out of York. With turmoil
still going on, and me being young, he was able to keep me more distracted where we
were living then.
We’d go out fishing, play in the field, and many, many more things. He never failed at
the one job he gave himself, and he would never stop trying his hardest to keep me
away from all the hatred and lies my families were once telling me.
As I kept getting older, he started backing off a little bit, mostly because we moved, but
also because he realized I was able to see the problems, and the only way they were
going to be fixed, was if I said something.
While living directly in Somerset now, my grandfather, of course, wasn't around as
much. He’d still come over to watch us or we’d go to his house to spend time with him.
Any and everything we wanted to do, he would do with us. One time we got him to pull
us on a Power Wheel with a ratchet strap, and he did it, just because it made us happy.
The main thing that definitely makes him my hero though, is the fact that he’s fearless.
He would never back down from anything especially if it came to protecting his
grandkids.
My step-dad has always had some very bad mood swings, he’d be happy, and then if
you disagreed with him, boom, he was like a firecracker, but a really big one. He had
always been short-tempered and hard to get along with, but if my grandfather ever saw
him yelling in my face, game over. My step-dad's temper went from being burning hot to
as cold as ice.
He would never back out of an argument that involved my step-dad yelling at me. He
would never hit him, unless needed, but he still fought back until his temper was either
cooled or he walked or drove away.
With my grandfather, he is the easiest person to get along with, but just don’t step to his
bad side. He also never holds a grudge; he always says, “what happened, happened,
but what’s happening, let happen.”
My grandfather is the most honest man in this world. He lives a happy life and has been
in my life since day one. There will never be another soul to replace him; he is one of a
kind. I believe my grandfather is my hero and no one will change that.
