This I Believe by David G.

I believe that you have to fail in order to succeed. With every failure comes

knowledge on how to deal with it. When you learn how to overcome that failure is when

you will learn how to succeed in life and become successful. You can learn from others'

mistakes but nothing can teach you better than by making those mistakes yourself.

When you fail at something, you cannot just quit at it and never try again, but instead,

you have to learn and grow from that failure.

I believe failure builds character and strength. When I was younger, I could never

ride a dirt bike. I would try and try every day and fail a lot. This failure motivated me to

keep trying and be able to ride that dirt bike that I had. After many tries and countless

days, I finally got on and was able to ride it. This made me very happy and made me

feel that I had accomplished something. I kept on riding my dirt bike until I got pretty

good at it and now it is something I enjoy doing.

I have even been able to teach some younger people how to ride a dirt bike and I

can tell that it makes them happy too. When you succeed at something that you would

otherwise not be good at brings a type of accomplished feeling. If you never try anything

new you will most likely never fail at anything.

Another example of failure is when I just started wrestling and got beat over and

over again. I was getting very frustrated and almost wanted to quit. I practiced what I

was doing wrong and I tried to fix it. After many practices, I thought I had learned what I

was doing wrong and was confident that I would win. I was very wrong and I got pinned

the next match I wrestled. This did not make me quit but it made me want to try even

harder. I practiced harder than I ever had and I asked the coaches what I could do. The

next match I wrestled I pinned the kid in the first period. This made me realize that all of

my work had paid off and if I did not fail I would not have put in that work. This shows

that failure leads to success if you keep on going and try harder.

You cannot let someone else's success make you feel like you are not

accomplishing anything. Those people that are succeeding now have gone through

some failures and that is how they became the person that they are today. When you

just start something you are going to fail at it no matter what you do so do not try to get

past it. Failure simply means that there is something to be learned and the only way to

learn is by trying it again. This is why I believe that you have to first fail in order to

succeed.
