This I Believe by Hannah L.

Everyone in some way has a hero, even if you don't realize it, or haven't found

that person yet. Whether it’s a real person or a character on T.V, someone has

impacted your life in some way.

Growing up, I don’t remember much about my relationship with my dad. But, over

the last few years, I am so grateful for what my dad has done for me, and what he has

taught me. My dad is the hardest working person I know. Daily, he wakes up at 4 am for

work. He gets up, goes to drink his coffee, watches NewsMax, and spends the early

morning in the company of our dog Yogi. As he’s walking out the door, tired, he always

makes sure he has his two 20 ounce Yeti’s filled to the top with coffee.

He works a labor job. Working at different coal companies for the last 21 years or

so, he comes home exhausted, hands dirty, and ready to sit down and take a nap. But,

instead, he comes home and gets things done around the house. Every night, he

watches one of his many TV shows and slowly drifts to sleep, but quickly wakes up

when he hears the smallest sound.

Not only is he a hard worker, but he is also my best friend. It's not your typical

mother-daughter duo that you more commonly hear about. But, still equally as special. I

can’t remember what my relationship was like with my dad growing up. But being his

firstborn and only daughter, the pictures in our photobooks show me the closeness we

had since I was young.

Over the last 10 years, he was the ultimate softball dad. Taking me to

tournaments, being my coach, and teaching me what I needed to know about the sport.

He was always the most supportive person, and always had my back. During the

tournament weekends, we would drive around Chambersburg, and find somewhere

different to eat. No matter where we went, he always got a Mushroom Swiss Burger.

Ever since I made up my mind about what I wanted to do with my future, he told

me that I can do anything I want as long as I’m motivated enough to work for it. Never

once has he made me doubt what I can and cannot do. By seeing how hard he works to

provide for our family, it inspires me to make something of myself in the future. He once

attended college for a few years, and even took the state trooper test and passed, but

was still confused on what he wanted to do career-wise. Now, he always wishes he

would have taken the opportunity to do what he wanted, and he makes sure to instill on

me and my brother to go after what we want and take up whatever interests us. My dad

has taught me how to be a hard worker, and to be successful and proud of where my

future will take me.

I believe that everyone has a hero of some sort in their life that has inspired them

to be successful and achieve anything they work hard enough for.
