This I Believe

God has a plan for me. I believe there is a purpose for our lives. It is easy to not
believe in god and push him away, to just party, to just do the opposite of what God
wants us to do. It is an everyday struggle trying to be good enough for God, but I love
the challenge. When I was younger, I knew about God from church, but I didn’t care to
learn about him or to have a relationship with him, I just took the easy route and pushed
him away.
I wouldn’t thank God for my accomplishments but I would curse him for my
failures without even knowing who he was.
We stopped going to church when I was 8, but it didn’t really matter because I
didn’t want a relationship with God anyways. When I was 13, my mom got cancer and
on March 8, 2016, she passed away. I blamed God for all of it, God took my mom away
from me, I hated him for it.
Eventually, I couldn’t see a purpose to all this madness we call life. I was getting
caught up in the wrong friend group and surrounding myself with the wrong people. I
was just going through the motions like partying and swearing like a trucker. I had a bad
attitude towards my dad and was being very disrespectful, and, yep, acting like god
didn’t exist.
Yet God always found his way back into my life. God gave me an amazing
girlfriend who helped me learn that God is real and that he is good and that each and
every one of us has a purpose on this earth, I started believing in something bigger than
we could even imagine. I realized that God didn’t take my mom away from me, God
ended her suffering and her pain and he welcomed her into his kingdom of eternal life.
I started Powerlifting last year and I thank God for giving me the strength and the
ability to lift weights with my girlfriend and all my friends. Even though I pushed God
away for years, he welcomed me with open arms. Because of him, I have amazing job
opportunities, great grades, a good friend group, and an even better attitude towards
life.
I now go to church every Sunday with my girlfriend and her family. I started
going to bible study a couple of weeks ago and now my girlfriend and I are starting up our
own bible study for people in the weight room and for friends at school. I now know that
I have a purpose on this earth and I can’t wait to see what that purpose is. I believe
God has a purpose for all of us, go find yours.
