A True Hero by Hunter S.
Most people view a hero as a person of high recognition or amazing accomplishments. To me, a
hero is much simpler. A hero is a person with a positive impact on somebody's life. A person
who is there for you in times of need. A person who would do anything for you. That hero for me
is my mom.
My mom had two kids by the age of 26. My brother, Jordan, and myself. My dad was only here
for the first two months of my birth and didn’t come back until I was 2 years old due to being
deployed to Iraq. My mom had to raise and provide for me and my brother while my dad was
overseas. When my mom was at work, my grandmother would have to watch over me where
we all lived together. My mom has always disciplined us and showed us right from wrong. No
matter what circumstance, she was always there for us, watching over us like a hero.
Another reason why my mother is my hero is because of her presence throughout the last
seventeen years of my life. What I mean by that is how she never missed any of my basketball
games. She never missed one of my doctor appointments. She never missed birthdays, and we
had the best ones. She has always made sure that I’m on time for all of them. She has been
there for me through times of stress and sadness. Even though I’m 17 years old, I still and
always will open up and talk to my mom about whatever it is I’m going through. There’s no
connection like one with your mom.
The main reason I think my mom is a hero is because she's the type of person some people
aspire to be. Although she’s my mom, she’s taught me how to become a man. The way she
treats people should be how we all treat people. No matter what mood she’s in, she always
picks up the phone and acts excited to be talking to the other person, and always puts on a
laugh. She is always there for the people she loves and cares about.
I hate when my mom yells
at me, but I’m also grateful she does. That means she cares about me and the decisions I
make. But what is most important to me is no matter the type of day we’ve had, we always hug
and I give my mom a kiss on the head. I say I love you and she says it back to me as I make
my way up the stairs into my bedroom. I go to bed every night knowing I will always have my
hero.
Heroes aren’t people with money, fame, or influence. They’re someone like my mom.
