This I Believe byLexi S.
I believe that karma is a real consequence. Karma is destiny or fate, following as
an effect from cause. Karma is something that occurs in reaction to the decisions you
make. Whatever type of energy you put into the world will always come back to you. It
could be instant or it could take a longer amount of time. I experienced a bit of karma on
a normal day at school in art class.
Art class is my favorite class because of the flowing creativity and the open
laughter. Creating beautiful pieces and allowing for concentration while also having fun
is the perfect environment for me.
Along with laughter, the sounds of harmless jokes being told are constant
background noise to the normal conversation. There are a few of my friends that have
the same class as me. At the table beside me, a close friend sits in a chair to my left.
Something that occurs often is one of us turning to the other to collaborate ideas or to
occasionally make fun of the other person. It makes our days more interesting and
makes the work go by faster. In between projects, one person will walk to the other´s
table to look at the progress made or to make a quick joke.
In one specific instance, my friend came over to glance at my work. She
complimented it and we had small conversations. As she turned to leave, she made one
of those harmless jokes we liked to exchange back and forth. A moment after this she
hit her leg off of the chair next to me.
I laughed at her jokingly and as I turned away from her, and I hit my already
broken nail on the bottom of the table.
“Karma,” my teacher simply stated to us.
We both looked at each other and laughed because of what had just taken place.
It was funny at the time, but looking back now I can recognize the valuable lesson we
could both learn in that situation. Ever since that situation, I have been able to use this
experience to recognize decisions in my life or others lives that could lead to
This is an example of a reason why I believe in karma. Both my friend and I
experienced instant karma because of the bad energy we put out into the world.
Although it was not a dramatic change to our lives it was definitely a good lesson
learned. Whether karma results from small amounts of bad energy or from large
amounts of good energy, I believe that karma exists.
