This I Believe by Nate P.
I believe that you should treat each day as your last. I believe this because you
never truly know when your last day will be. Our last day could be in seventy years; it
could also be tomorrow; we don't truly know. One day will be our last. So I believe that
we should go live our lives the way we wish to and stop stressing about tomorrow and
live in the present day.
During mid-spring and late summer, when Covid-19 hit the United States and we
went to virtual learning, my friends, David, Ethan, Aaron, and I decided to spend that
summer in the best ways we could.
We all rode dirt bikes fairly often and decided to build a track for them. That
whole summer, we spent together working on that track and hanging out together was
the best time I've ever had in my entire life. We would work our jobs usually in the
mornings then meet up at the track or at each other's houses to see what we get
ourselves into that day. Then we would go watch the dirt bike races in the Latrobe
Speedway, which we raced in.
We would go swimming in some lakes or ponds. We would also go out to a lake
and slide down the spillway. Sure, it was dangerous and not safe, but we were cautious
and didn't get hurt. But it was such a thrill flying down the spillway, on boogie boards.
Then, after we were done on the spillway, we would go fishing together and catch fish
to put in David's pond.
One day, when it was really hot, David picked us up in the bucket of an
excavator and dropped us thirty feet in the air. That was one of my favorite memories.
I believe that I have never tried so many things that summer or experienced new
and different things than I have over that summer with my best friends. We would do
almost everything together. We went out to eat at new restaurants together. We all
pushed each other to become better people. I believe that I truly made bonds with
those people that could never be broken. We helped each other grow and learn new
things from each other. For example, David taught me how to operate a pilot-controlled
skid loader. Ethan and Aaron taught me how to drive a manual car and instilled a
passion for cars in me.
I believe that we all lived that summer like it was our very last one. We all made
so many memories together that I will never forget. What I believe is that each person
should live their life how we did. I feel like I've never had so much fun as I did this
summer. I think that if everyone could try to live more like this that the world would be a
far better place.
