This I Believe by Noah S.

I believe that everyone accepting and loving each other would make the world a

better place. The idea is simple but seems so hard for so many to do.

The world we live in today is full of so much hate and discrimination. It causes so

many problems that are completely unnecessary and undeserved. Nobody should ever

be judged for the color of their skin, their sexual orientation, their religious beliefs, or

how they choose to live their life. No human is less than another human. Sadly, this is

not how many people feel and they continue teaching these old-fashioned and ignorant

beliefs to their children, and the cycle of hate and fear just keeps going. Kids follow their

parent's example and many parents choose to teach this hatred and racism to future

generations. For as long as I can remember, my mom has always taught me and my

brother and my sisters that everyone is equal and should be treated that way. She

always taught me to accept and care about people of all kinds no matter what they

believe, who they love, or what race they are. This is such a simple idea that seems to

confuse so many.

In years past, people who were racist and bigots hid their beliefs from the rest of

society and were quiet about what they believed. Events in the last few years have

made them brave and now the way they feel and live is not a secret. They seem proud

to tell people what they believe and they are no longer afraid of the consequences of

their words and actions. We have to stand up for what we believe and know is right. We

have to defend the people who are being discriminated against.

Living in an area like this makes it more obvious that hate and discrimination is

still very much a part of our lives and our world. A lot of people use their religion and

church to make their judgments and hate okay. People in our area have become so

used to this way of life, and mindset that it just seems normal to feel the way that they

do.

I believe that if everyone would stop hating each other for small reasons and

could just learn to exist together, the world would be a much better place. Martin Luther

King Jr. said “Returning hate for hate multiplies hate, adding deeper darkness to a night

already devoid of stars. Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate

cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.”
