This I Believe by Sydnee A.

I believe in self-love. No matter what the world throws at me, I believe that I can conquer

anything and learn to love myself more and more each day. Self-love allows me to show my true

colors and learn how I am accepted. I believe that self-love can change the world because it

allows you to accept your neighbors and learn to be kind. I believe that the ones who don’t

accept themselves, want to bring down others so they know how they feel. I have been in those

situations before, but after learning to be true to myself, the more I feel at peace and

appreciative of who I am.

I started to learn that I needed to love myself at the beginning of 10th grade. My

sophomore year was one of the hardest years I have ever had to go through. I had many people

bring me down, I did things that I am not very proud of, and I got to my lowest point in life. I

remember sitting on the couch crying into my mom’s chest about everything that had been going

on. I remember looking up at her and her saying that I should never let people decide about how

I feel about myself and learn to forget the ones that made me feel unworthy. Since that moment,

I have been trying really hard every day to remind myself that I should always love myself for

who I am and never let other people determine who I was. If you asked me two years ago about

myself, I would have told you that I meant nothing, that I was outcast from others that

appreciated themselves. If you asked me today, I would tell you that I was something, that I love

every bit of myself.

There is nothing better than knowing how to love and appreciate yourself. It has taught

me a lot of good things about myself and it also helped me build my confidence. For example, I

was always nervous to wear certain things at school because I didn’t want the risk of getting

made fun of, but over the years, I have been more confident with what I wear and I've learned to

not care about what other people think of me. In my opinion, I think self-love is the greatest love

that someone could ever receive.

We should never want to look like the Instagram models or the really jacked people at

the gym. You are only seeing them on their best days, so they’re not a realistic goal. We should

never compare what we look like and feel like to others. We are all unique in every different way

and we need to learn how to love that about ourselves. I have come a long way from where I

was two years ago and I have never loved myself more. I believe that we are all beautiful. I

believe that we are all unique. I believe in self-love.
