When we talk about the burdens we carry, we often think about those external circumstances which weigh us down such as financial worries or concerns over loved ones. But when Jesus offers to take these and ‘give us rest’ he isn’t just talking about external types, he is also inviting us to lay down those internal burdens we carry.
Looking at Chapter 9 of ‘Pursuit of God’ by A.W Tozer, we look at Matthew 11 and unpack what these internal burdens are and how we can give them to Jesus.

Mark looked at the word ‘burden’ or phrase ‘heavy-laden’ in verse 28 and the Greek word ‘phortizō’ pronounced ‘for-tid-zo’ which means ‘to overburden with ceremony or rites and unwarranted precepts (legalism).
