Today's topic may not seem "easterish" at first, but it's profoundly relevant.
Reflecting on Jesus’ Sermon On The Mount, we've explored Jesus' radical values, challenging us to live differently. Now, we confront an uncomfortable truth: loving our enemies. In a culture where division is rampant, Jesus' command to love those who oppose us feels counterintuitive. But as Mark explains, this is precisely what Easter is about.
Drawing from Matthew 5:43-44 and Luke 6:27-28, we confront the reality of having enemies. Jesus calls us to love them, pray for them, bless them, and do good to them. Why? Because it mirrors God's love for us. Even as enemies, Christ died for us, offering forgiveness and reconciliation.
Through powerful stories and biblical truths, Mark challenges us to see ourselves as God's former enemies, saved by His grace. Like Peter Miller's plea for his enemy's life to George Washington, we're reminded of Jesus' ultimate sacrifice to turn enemies into friends.
So, this Easter, let's embrace Jesus' radical call to love. As we reflect on His resurrection, may we extend love and forgiveness to those who oppose us, just as Jesus did for us. Happy Easter!
