On Wednesday August 4th, we met with Mina Charnaux of the Eurometropolis of Strasbourg and talked about stimulating biodiversity in the city. In 2008 the Europmetropolis tried to find alternatives for the use of pesticides in the city. Several alternatives were tested but none of them was as effective as pesticides. Yet, instead of using pesticides again, Strasbourg just accepted the ‘weeds’ as part of the green in the city. Since then, various projects have been started to stimulate biodiversity in the Eurometropolis; asking commitment of other organizations, and involving citizens. After 10 years a lot has been achieved but ideas to continue and improve are still plenty.
