Description

We're joined by Belfast Celtic Society board members Padraig Coyle, Frank Hennessey and Charles Tully Jr., son of Celtic legend Charles Patrick Tully, for a feature-length discussion on Belfast Celtic Football Club.

Belfast Celtic are arguably the most famous lost club from the island of Ireland. Existing during some of Ireland's most turbulent and violent periods of history, and being interwoven with the social, economic and political history of Belfast, Belfast Celtic were a club who represented their community and provided them a space to make their voices heard.

Tragically, they fell out of existence after leaving the IFA in 1949 following a controversial fight during a match.

In this episode, we discuss the power clubs like Belfast Celtic have in drawing people and their stories to them, the work that goes into preserving the memory of a football club and how people attach themselves to football clubs which they feel represented them in matters beyond football.
