As the House of Commons winds down to their summer recess, we also find ourselves in the middle of the month of June - Pride month! Each year, Pride month provides us with an important opportunity to celebrate, learn and reflect upon how we can better support LGBTQIA+ folks in communities.
To discuss what Pride means to her and pressing issues faced by the LGBTQIA+ community, we spoke this week with Wasiimah Joomun. Since first coming to Canada as an international student from Mauritius in 2016, Wasiimah has been involved in advocacy, policy and government relations at all levels - municipal, provincial and federal. She shares with us more about her own experience in these spaces and how we can all do more to reflect, celebrate and learn about how to empower LGBTQIA+ folks in our lives, both during Pride month and far beyond.
