1.33 Maitri karuna muditopekshanam sukha dukha punya - apunya vishayanambhavantash chitta prasadanam
Utilize kindness, compassion, joy, and equanimity to keep your feelings in balance. Whether the experience feels enjoyable or distasteful, this practice makes the mind clear as pure water. Maitri is kindness - infinite love. This is wanting others to be happy and bringing them causes for that happiness.
Karuna is Compassion. The removal of the suffering of others and the causes of that suffering. This compassion has to be learned. We learn compassion with the wish to end the suffering of others and the causes of that suffering. By objectively viewing things, opinions take on a subjective mind.
Mudita is Joy - when you stop having mental afflictions. This comes from a true spiritual path. The ultimate form of happiness is joy. To have a spiritual path is to have a healthy relationship with happiness, nothing lasts forever. The Law of Cause and Effect states people and things do not make you happy.
Upeksha is Equanimity - being equal to everyone. No discrimination. You did the thing they did because you were suffering. You choose to help everyone equally. Equanimity is seeing everyone as equal, not just helping some people and not others. This is giving help without becoming attached to the outcome. Be skillful with your audience and give them only what they can handle.
