There are still unripened seeds of the previous mindset, but because of previous practice, you begin to plant virtuous seeds. By not watering old habits - they die. You deal with the fall out of stored or repressed seeds that have been planted before knowledge of The Yoga Sutras. The niyamas are commitments that we keep, and yamas guide virtuous seeds to overgrow old, bad seeds.
