In today’s reading of Tyndale’s OYCSB (with featured content written by the CBT team),
God patiently torments Pharaoh and the Egyptian people through plagues because they have all rejected God. Sometimes God’s judgment is executed swiftly. Sometimes God allows a passage of time between the pronouncement of judgment and the execution of judgment.
God exposes the Egyptian gods as frauds. Pharaoh—also considered a god—proves himself no match for Creator God who actually exists.
God honors His people by making a distinction between them and the Egyptians. He humiliates Pharaoh by hardening his heart after several refusals to repent. God brings the prophets of Egypt’s religious system to nothing.
Oh…and God executes judgment through plagues! Plagues…the most explicit picture of judgment we may look to in order to grasp the reality of God’s wrath in the book of the Revelation.
