In today’s reading of Tyndale’s OYCSB (with featured content written by the CBT team),
- The second generation of liberated Hebrews must remember that the terms of their covenant with God, the Ten Commandments, rest in the Lord's presence in the ark of the covenant.
- Moses reminds them they must not forget the tribe of Levi. They have no inheritance with their brethren. The Levites will minister to the Lord and bless Him, standing between God's wrath and the Israelites. In return, they will be supplied by the offerings of God's covenant people.
- Moses poses the simplicity of God's covenant with Israel. They must only fear the Lord, walk in all His ways and love Him, serve the Lord with all their heart and soul, and obey Him. After all, God's laws are for their good.
- God promises to choose a place for His permanent dwelling among His people. In sharp contrast to the practices of idol worship, Israel will not isolate themselves to worship God in the dark, where the heart is able to run wild with all sorts of pleasurable pursuits. Rather, Israel will worship God in community. They will worship God in the light. The entire community will be accountable to rejoice before the Lord according to His terms and the boundaries God has placed for their flourishing.
