As David nears the end of his tenure as king of Israel, he dedicates himself to preparing the next generation for a great transition. The Holy of Holies will no longer be mobile. Israel will no longer be at war. God promises a King from David's lineage who will rule an everlasting kingdom. God's people must learn to obey God's covenant and champion the name of the Lord among the nations until the Messiah comes.
