Welcome back to PLAYTIME! This is the segment of the podcast designed for kids to listen to outside, with their grown ups. This week, we are going to try making lines and measuring with our collected nature objects. We will also make shapes and pictures together, and wonder about what else we can try measuring and making with our collections! Kids will have the opportunity to practice with measuring concepts and get creative with making some fun natural art.
The supplies you will need for this week's playtime: a collection of nature objects - this could be a bucket of rocks, a pile of sticks, acorns, or leaves...you just want to have enough objects that your child can lay them out in a big line, and arrange them in various shapes or patterns. My example will be a bucket that includes some rocks, and some acorns. If you have trouble finding natural objects, you can bring something outside with you - this could be a pile of blocks, Duplos, balls - anything that’s relatively small, and you have a good number of.
Another helpful thing to have today is a large piece of paper or fabric, like a pillowcase, that you don’t mind getting a little dirty. We will be using this as a canvas to make patterns and pictures with our nature items, but this could also be done right on the ground, or a table, or other flat surface.
