Adjusting our expectations is an important and emotionally intelligent skill to have. We can warn others of the need to lower their expectations, or we sense a need to manage our own. But as a follower of Jesus, our expectations need to create space for God's surprises. Our expectations direct our attempting... the actions that move us into God's future. If we have no expectations of change, we will not attempt much. Expecting comes before attempting.
