There is no stopping this multi-award winning international movie director from the Philippines.
Romm Burlat won his 28th international Best Director awards and 14 international Best Actor award from two international film festivals in India. It can be recalled that Burlat won prestigious awards for his performances in Covered (Tutop), Attention Grabbing (Agaw Pansi), Set Alight (Sindi) and now Homecoming (Mammangi). On the other hand, his Best Director awards come from his work in Homecoming , Cuckoo, Attention Grabbing, Set Alight, Akay (Support), Father of Your Son (Ama Ka Ng Anak Mo), Twist of Fat (Balikuko) and Love Child (Bata Bata Bakit Ka Ginawa).
Mr Burlat has been recognised in countries like Japan, India, Swede, Slovak Republic, Singapore, Portugal, Germany, Mexico and the United States of America.
Aside from his international awards being a director and actor, Direk Romm as he is fondly called, has won three awards in hosting: Best TV Talk Show Host at the 1st Southeast Asia Entertainment Awards, Uruvatti International Film & TV Festival and Port Blair International Film Festival.
The commercials he directed for UniBall Philippines & Manila Ocean Park, City of Ilagan Hotel and City of Ilagan Tourism AVP also won awards in international film festivals.
It really is no-stopping for Romm since his films already won 16 international Best Films. He also won a Best Supporting Actor award, Best Producer award and Best Screenplay award.
Director Romm Burlat was one of the recipients of the Outstanding Men & Women of the Philippines 2018.
In May this year, he will be honored as Philippine Faces of Success for his achievements both local and internationally film industry “Is there anything left he has not won in Philippine showbiz?” we asked. “I haven’t won the hearts of the people behind the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP). While other countries recognised me for my achievements, I was snubbed by my own country.” It is just sad”, Burlat said. “But the awards I won after that were more than enough to compensate the glaring omission in honoring me as Film Ambassador”.
Last year however, FDCP honored him with all recognition due.Direk Romm has come out a winner, he still dreams of jumping into mainstream films. That is his ultimate dream in showbiz. “I also dream of one day being called a Blockbuster director just like my late best friend, Direk Wenn V. Deramas” Burlat quipped.
He is also bent on getting accredited in Cannes and Hollywood. Burlat said it might be a tall order but according to him,” there is no impossible dream when you put your heart in what you are doing. Hard work coupled with determination and love of your passion are all that matters and yes, strong faith in God”.
