Joel Bowden is the current sitting Labor member for the Territory seat of Johnston. A seat he won in a by-election held earlier this year.
Born in Mildura, Victoria, Joel is the son of an AFL premiership and former Richmond player. As a youngster, Joel grew up in an outback community and went to school in Alice Springs. He later joined Richmond and played 265 games for the club including making the All Australian team in 2005 and 2006.
After football, Joel moved his family to Darwin where he was involved in the union movement before the opportunity to enter politics came up.
Joel clearly enjoys a good conversation and he possesses a certain steely assuredness that may yet see him rise to greater heights in politics.
