Description

Originally from Sydney, Dr. John Garrick is a retired academic and current Fellow at Charles Darwin University in Darwin, Australia.

During his years as a lawyer and academic, John has written extensively on the rise of China.

After a little banter about Sydney and the NRL, John discusses the increasing tension between China and the West and in particular, how this is playing out in Australia’s north.

With Labor being returned to office in the recent Northern Territory election, there’s renewed focus on how the government is going to tackle its burgeoning debt. Will the Northern Territory Government be able to continue to engage in economic development with China as a solution to this debt crisis, or will it be hamstrung by the Federal Government tightening its grip on engagement with China through its external affairs powers.

John expouse his views on these issues in his Territory Story.
