Description

Lyma Nguyen has an incredible story. Her parents fled Vietnam and she was born in a refugee camp in Indonesia. After being granted refugee status by the Australian government, Lyma’s family moved to Darra in Brisbane where she grew up. She was a bookish girl and went on to study politics, philosophy and law at the University of Queensland. After graduating, Lyma worked for the Australian government in Canberra and then Darwin. But she spent all of her spare time working pro bono as a Human Rights lawyer in Cambodia. Lyma was instrumental in helping Vietnamese Cambodians get recognition as citizens of Cambodia following displacement and genocide during the tyrannical rule of Pol Pot. This is Lyma’s story.
