Kym Cairns was born in Brisbane and raised on the northside. She went to Aspley High and then to Griffith University where she studied to become a high school geography teacher.
Her first posting was the indigenous community of Doomadgee in the Gulf country of far north Queensland. Kym talks about her time there and the challenges faced by indigenous Australians.
She also talks about the horrific accident her then husband suffered whilst they were holidaying in Rome, Italy, and eight weeks he spent in ICU before she was able to charter a medivac flight back to Darwin.
Kym is now leading the NT branch of Volunteering South Australia and the Northern Territory and she discusses her work in the NFP sector.
This is Kym’s Territory Story.
