Superintendent Sachin Sharma is currently Acting Commander - Incident Controller for the Northern Territory’s Covid-19 Response Emergency Operations Centre.
Sachin was born in Dharamshala, a city in far north India close to the Pakistan border, near the disputed Kashmir region at the foothills of the Himalayas.
He qualified as an accountant before coming to Brisbane, Australia in 1999 to further his accounting studies. However his real plan was to study law. So he started a diploma in justice studies where he met some policemen who encouraged him to join the police force.
In a sliding doors moment, an advertisement seeking recruits to the Northern Territory caught his eye and he came to the Territory to start his career in the police force.
As is so typical of anyone willing to give it a go in the Territory, Sachin has scaled the heights of his profession and is another testament to why people who stay in the Territory for more than three years, tend to stay for life.
This is Sachin’s Territory Story.
