With the council elections coming up, we spoke with two mayoral candidates challenging the very popular incumbent, Mayor Athina Pascoe-Bell, for the position in Palmerston.
Ryan Pettifer is an electrician from New Zealand. He has lived in Palmerston for the past five years.
Raj Samson Rajwin is a perennial political punter. Since 2016 he’s thrown his hat in on almost every election, be it local, Territory or Federal. At various times he has been a member of the CLP, Territory One and Clive Palmer’s United Australia Party, as well as an independent.
Born in New Delhi, India, Raj claims to have completed a degree in medicine at the University of New Delhi and worked as a doctor in Alice Springs. He also claims to live in Palmerston (which is a requirement for running in the Palmerston election) whilst also maintaining a residence in Darwin.
