Description

This is Mario Tsirbas.

Mario was born in Athens, Greece, and is the third boy in a family of five boys. His father, George, most well known as the name behind Cerbis Ceramics, came to Darwin in the mid eighties to do postgraduate studies in accounting and learn English. The idea was that he’d return to Greece and work for the Bank of Greece. That didn’t happen.

Mario grew up in Darwin, went to Jingili Primary and Darwin High before going to Sydney and earning double degrees in Engineering and Commerce from the University of Sydney. He then spent a few years working in New South Wales before returning to Darwin with his wife who’s father lamented that in a city of five million people, she found the one guy who was not from Sydney.

Mario runs 4 Kitchens, a successful business that manufactures and supplies cabinet and joinery. He talks about the challenges of doing business in the Territory including the difficulty in competing with public sector wages and conditions.

He also talks about the government vaccination mandate which led to him to help found a new business association known as United NT Businesses. The association is seeking to legally challenge the way government is implementing Covid policy.

You can hear Mario’s story on the next episode of Territory Story.
