Description

These days having an open and honest conversation about indigenous advancement can be fraught by self-censorship, as people prevaricate to ensure they operate within the ever expanding boundaries of politically correctness.

John Elferink is a former Attorney General and Minister for Corrections. He was in charge of corrections in 2016 when the ABC 4 Corners program did an investigation into youth justice in the Northern Territory. This resulted in the Federal Government announcing a Royal Commission. However, several years on and the recommendations from the Royal Commission are yet to be fully implemented.

Following on from the Zac Rolfe verdict, John talks candidly about his own experience with policing in remote communities and the challenges facing those communities with current and historic government policies.

This is John's second appearance on the podcast. You can hear his own story on episode 49.
