Owen Pike is like a durian. People either love him or loathe him. A larrikin of sorts, Owen was born in Bunbury, Western Australia and grew up in the goldfields near Kalgoorlie. He followed his father up to Darwin at the age of 13, but completed his education and university studies in Perth. Taking over from his parents, Owen has been running the family business with his older brother since 2002. The business, MMC, is a service provider to mining, oil and gas companies. They employ 200 people making it one of the biggest local firms in the Northern Territory. But Owen has an axe to grind with the NT Government and he’s taking no prisoners. His Facebook page, ‘Gumment’, which is heavily critical of the Government, is wildly popular with over 3,000 followers. He has his detractors too; he has been labelled narcissistic, misogynistic and a bully, but Owen is undeterred. For better or worse, this is Owen’s story.
