Steve Edgington is a Member of the Northern Territory Legislative Assembly for the seat of Barkly. Geographically, Barkly represents the largest electorate in the Northern Territory Parliament at almost 442,000 square kilometres. That’s larger than the entire state of California.
Born in Carlton, Victoria, Steve was just a baby when his family moved to Adelaide, South Australia.
After completing high school and a few odd jobs, Steve signed up to become a police officer in the Northern Territory.
He spent 16 years in the force and worked in Darwin, Alice Springs as well as in remote communities.
Steve went on to become Mayor of Tennant Creek before running for the seat of Barkly in the 2020 election. He won the seat by just 5 votes, the smallest margin in the history of the Northern Territory.
This is Steve’s Territory story.
