This film takes certain characters & elements from the 1897 novel, “Dracula” by Bram Stroker, and puts them in a modern setting. The film is produced and directed by Chris McKay, who previously directed “The Tomorrow War” & “The Lego Batman Movie”. It stars Nicholas Hoult as the titular character and the great Nicholas Cage as “Dracula”. The film also stars Awkwafina, Ben Schwartz & Shohreh Aghdashloo. Here, Dracula’s long time “familiar”, R.M. Renfield has begun to feel weary in his role. 9 decades of “feeding” his master’s appetite take a toll on Renfield. However, things take a daring turn in the present, when a police officer in New Orleans begins investigating mysterious disappearances of local residents. Now, Renfield must decide to either keep serving The Count or break free before it’s too late. This film was developed around the time of Universal’s cinematic universe launch but when 2017’s “The Mummy” bombed at the box office, this film would spend the next 4 years in development hell before being picked up again in 2022.
