Episode 32: Today we have this phenomenal woman Jessica Walker ! Jessica dives in and shares with us about her journey becoming a young mother and her determination to make something of herself. She shares how she gave birth to entrepreneurship from such a young age and the moments she felt like she was about to loose it all. She reminds us that Where there is a WILL there is a WAY. Allow her story to activate within you and remind you that you have everything it takes to create the life you desire.
Jessica is a beauty industry entrepreneur, a change maker, a mother of five and a small business advocate. Her story begins long before she was born. Her father was orphaned after his own father (a jealous, alcoholic) took his mother’s life and then his own. A tragedy that could have derailed a family for generations somehow led to Jessica Walker’s remarkable life. Her father, the connector between Jessica and her grandmother, is the source for a great deal of the purpose and drive in her life. But it was a long road coming.
Jessica had her first child at 16 and married the father. While she was able to graduate from high school, she never completed a traditional college education. She likes to say she has a “master’s degree in the school of hard knocks” with an education that came from a remarkable set of life experiences. She graduated from high school on a Thursday and started cosmetology school the next day. By the age of 19, Jessica opened her first salon with a $50,000 loan from her parents. She paid them back within the year and never borrowed another dollar from them.
She went on to have two more children with her first husband, but the relationship turned abusive. Thankfully, Jessica was able to get out. She later went on to remarry and have two more children with her current husband.
Today, Jessica has been in business for 25 years, with four physical salon locations.
